Mensa Otabil - Faith is Released Through Words
TOPICS: Word to Go, Faith

Before faith becomes an action, it is first and foremost a word, something that is spoken. Faith is released through the spoken word, and we see from the first chapter of Genesis that God’s power is released through His words. He spoke things into reality, and this is the pattern we see in Genesis chapter 1, from verse 3 to 5. Then God said, «Let there be light,» and there was light. God saw that the light was good. In verse 5, God called the light «day,» and the darkness He called «night.»

So we see a process here: God said, God saw, God called. When God is changing things, when God is releasing His power, He speaks before He sees, and then He calls the things that He sees. Many of us want to see something before we say it. People often want to see things change before they declare that it has changed, but God says it has changed before it changes. If you look at Jesus Christ, He said, «You are healed,» before people were healed. He didn’t wait for them to be healed and say, «You are healed.» Instead, He said, «Rise up, take up your bed, and walk.»

He doesn’t say, «Be healed first, before you rise up and take up your bed and walk.» God speaks things before He sees them, and that is how God wants us to operate our lives. He wants us to act like Him. He wants us to exercise our faith by declaring things before we see them. We don’t talk about what we are seeing; we talk about what we want to see. So when God saw darkness, He didn’t describe how dark it was; He said, «Let there be light.»

So, what are you saying? What are you speaking into reality today? We have to learn to speak light to replace every darkness in our lives. We have to learn to speak joy. You can say, «Let there be light! Let there be joy! Let there be peace! Let there be healing! Let there be abundance!» Faith is put into action by speaking, and mastery over what you say—control over what you say—is the first point for learning to walk by faith and not by sight.

Jesus said, «Whosoever shall say to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea, ' " didn’t say we should pray to God about it, but «whosoever shall say to this mountain.» God said, «Let there be light,» and there was light, and He saw what He had spoken. God wants you to see what you are speaking. He wants you to speak things, and those things become visible and manifested. I believe that the season we are in is a good time for you to start saying things that you want to see, not just what you see now. The things you want to see—speak peace, speak light, speak joy, speak increase, speak favor, speak abundance—because when you say those things, they will become your reality, and you will see them.

I trust you’ll learn to walk by faith through the release of your words. I am Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
