Mensa Otabil - Don't Be Double-Minded
TOPICS: Word to Go

Welcome to day number 21 of our 40 days of power. Gradually, we’re making progress, and today we are talking about not being double-minded. James chapter 1, verses 6 to 8: «But let him ask in faith with no doubting; for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.»

Well, you know that it’s not just about men; it’s also about women. A double-minded person is someone God wants us to ask in faith. He wants us to approach Him in faith without doubting, trusting Him and Him alone. When we trust Him, He wants our trust in Him to be firm and deep—not transferred to someone else or something else. The Greek word translated as «double-minded» literally means «double-souled» or a person with two souls. Simply put, it means two personalities in one person.

When the Bible says we doubt, it is as if we are two different people. The reason it states we are like two different people is that one side of us has a personality of its own, while another side has its own personality. When we read the Bible, the Word of God generates faith in our hearts, giving us the personality of faith and confidence, making us very sure that God will do something for us.

Then, maybe we listen to the news or someone tells us something, and fear comes into us. We develop a whole personality of fear, which now competes with the personality of faith. The Bible tells us that when we do this, we are like two different people—one moment full of faith and the next full of doubt.

The cure for double-mindedness is to be mindful of where we receive our spiritual nourishment—from the Word of God, filled with truths rooted in the Bible. It’s not just about news that instills fear; sometimes, unfortunately, even some preachers can instill fear, fear not founded in the Word of God—fear of witches, wizards, and witchcraft.

When we feed our minds on these stories, we create a personality of fear. Therefore, you cannot be consuming information about witchcraft and simultaneously consuming the Holy Spirit and the name of Jesus along with the power of God. The two do not coexist; you become a double-souled person, a double-minded individual. The Bible states that you are tossed about by every wind and cannot receive anything from God.

One reason people serve God for a long time but can’t receive anything is due to double-mindedness—the two conflicting personalities, one of fear and one of faith, both being fed. Because of this, they cannot receive anything from God. If you want to receive from God, be careful about your spiritual diet—consume the Word of God, have faith in the name of Jesus, understand the authority you have in Christ, and know that the devil is under your feet. You have power in the name of Jesus. Stay there, and don’t deviate, and your faith will be firmly grounded.

Let’s share a word of prayer together. Say with me, «Heavenly Father, I thank You for the victory I have in Christ Jesus. Help me to stand strong in faith at all times. In Jesus' name, Amen and Amen.» Well, I’m glad you were able to join me in this time. Peace and life to you.
