Mensa Otabil - Blessed to Be a Blessing (09/27/2025)
Welcome to Day number 25 of our 40 Days of Power. We have 15 more days to go. We’ve accomplished more than what lies ahead of us, and we thank God for His faithfulness and for His strength in bringing us this far. Today, we are discussing «Blessed to Be a Blessing,» and we are looking at Luke chapter 6, verse 38: «Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom; for with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.»
This is an exciting promise from God; it’s a promise that affects all areas of our lives. When Jesus tells us to give, He assures us that it will be given back to us; He has literally given us a blank check. «Give, and it shall be given back to you,» and He is speaking about a general principle that impacts every area of our lives. When we give, we receive; when we forgive others, we receive forgiveness; when we give joy, we receive joy; when we give financially, we receive financially; when we pray for others, God answers our prayers. Thus, the principle of giving impacts every aspect of our lives—finances, joy, work—everything is influenced by giving and receiving.
For us Christians, to receive, we don’t begin by getting; we start by giving. Most people think they receive by getting, but in Christianity, we receive by giving. We ignite the process of receiving by first giving. God initiated this process; He started a plan of salvation by giving us His only Son, Christ Jesus, so that He could bring sons and daughters into His kingdom. God gave, and it was given back to Him—good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over. Similarly, He stores this truth: if you want to receive something, you give. The exciting part is how the receiving happens. He says it will occur in good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over.
There are four levels of abundance. First is the good measure level, where you’ve received a lot. God says He will press it down so that He can fit even more in, and He will shake it so that it can overflow. After all that, your cup will overflow. God desires to bring us to overflow in every area of our lives, but it begins with becoming generous givers. First, we give prayer, we give joy, we give kindness, and we give financially. Whatever we give, we receive back. Givers never lack, and there is no way you can commit yourself to being a giver without experiencing abundance, because God’s promise is yes and amen.
«Give, and it shall be given back to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over.» Do you want abundance? Do you want your cup to overflow? Then start giving. Why don’t we pray together? Say with me, «Heavenly Father, thank You for giving first to me. Help me to be a generous giver in all areas of my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.» Well, my friends, if you prayed that with your heart, I believe that the cycle of receiving has been set into motion. Get ready for your miracle. Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
