Mensa Otabil - Activate God's Power
TOPICS: Word to Go

Welcome to Day number 10 of our 40 Days of Power. We’ve completed one-quarter of the journey, and we have 30 more days ahead of us. It’s getting exciting and more empowering because the grace of God is sufficient for us. Today, we’re looking at activating God’s power in our lives.

Mark Chapter 9, Verse 23: Jesus said to him, «If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.» Jesus made this statement after a man told him about the ailment his child had. His child had been afflicted with epilepsy since childhood, and according to the man’s own account, many times the child would be thrown into water or fire, perplexing the family for so long.

This man brought his afflicted child to the disciples of Jesus for them to pray for him to be well. They prayed for the boy, but nothing really happened. Just at that moment, when it seemed like there was no solution, Jesus had just come from the Mount of Transfiguration and saw his disciples trying to fix this problem, but the problem was not fixed.

The man came to Jesus and said, «Sir, I came to your disciples, and they couldn’t solve the problem. Please have compassion on me.» Jesus responded to the man, saying, «If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.» Very interesting. The man asked Jesus, «Lord, have compassion on me,» and Jesus said, «If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.»

In other words, it’s good for a situation to be bad and for us to hope that God will have compassion on us, but what triggers the power of God is our faith. We have to exercise faith. God’s power is released through faith. Jesus says if he is going to have compassion on you, then your faith must make that compassion possible.

In other words, God’s power does not just respond to need. God does not simply respond because there is a need or because people are in tears or suffering. Sometimes we look at the world’s suffering and wonder, «Why doesn’t God do something about it?» All things are possible to him who believes.

It’s almost like going into a room with no electricity and asking, «Why is there no light?» The light comes on when you switch it on. If you don’t switch it on, you can cry all you want; you can weep as much as you want, but there will still be darkness. What activates the power of God is faith. It’s not about how bad your situation is, but faith in God.

Faith comes by hearing the Word of God, knowing the Word of God, understanding the promises of God, and trusting that He will do what He says He will do. Therefore, faith is essential for the release of God’s compassion in our lives. And don’t ever mistake your pain for the only thing required for God to give you an answer. God requires faith.

He that comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Activate the power of God in your life; believe His Word, believe His promises. Are you ready to do that? Why don’t we share a word of prayer today? Say with me, «Heavenly Father, I believe your Word; I believe your promises to me. Let your power be seen in my life. What you have said to me, I believe now to be so. In Jesus' name, Amen.»

Now you’ve turned a switch on, and God’s power is at work in you. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
