John Gray - The Aftermath

Opening and Welcome
Are you ready for the word of the Lord? I will ask again. I love you. Are you ready for the word of the Lord? Come on and stand if you have the physical ability to do so. I am going to read some scripture; we are going to get right into the word. Are there any college basketball fans in the room? Let us watch those South Carolina Lady Gamecocks! Go ahead and bring the championship home!
Shoutout to Coach Dawn
I saw somebody talking about Boo. Do not do that too loud; these people are crazy. They will come over here. The coach is a friend of mine, Dawn is a friend of mine, and I am proud of her. That is my homegirl. When they were here last year, she got me some tickets, and I went and saw them when they were in Greenville. I have known Dawn for many years, so I am proud of her. But that Caitlin Clark is no joke; that girl has game. She does. But we are in South Carolina, so we are going to represent for the home state.
Standing for the Word
If you have the physical ability to stand, please do, unless you have a child; if you have a baby, by all means, remain seated. We have some little babies around here. I met a man of God and his wife in the back. They have a little girl who literally looks like a perfect little doll baby. I said she could have all my money right now; she is just gorgeous. Where are you at, man of God? He was holding his daughter. Where are you at? He is in the back somewhere. There he is! Where did that baby go? Where is she? She is asleep? Oh, she is not asleep? Okay, so she is not a deacon, because deacons tend to sleep on the front row, and some elders do too. I am preaching, Pastor! That is good—that is a good word!
Keeping Joy
I want you to keep your joy. It has been a beautiful time. Last week was unbelievable—130 people gave their lives to Christ between our in-person and online services—130! The average American church has 75 adults. We added two churches to our church. I want to be clear: I have no desire to be a national or international name. That is something God did. But what I do want to be, and what my wife desires to be, is that we want to be faithful stewards over this local congregation. Wherever God leads it, that is fine. But there are some things that God is doing for us that we are going to share over the coming weeks that will literally make you pull your braids out and let your new growth stick up in the air! I am just saying, Elder Brian, you are going to pull your braids out. You did pull them out already, because you do not have any!
Scripture Reading: Matthew 27
Go to Matthew 27, Matthew 27. We have got some family from Indiana. I met one young lady; she has got some beautiful kids—two boys and a little girl. She said her son watches me online; they watch from Indiana, and she is like, “Well, his name is John Gray, but sometimes he wears red, so is his name John Red, or if I wear a black hoodie, is he John Black?” I just love the fact that she had to explain that the hoodies may change, but my name does not. That just touched my heart. But I am glad you guys are here; it means the world.
Post-Resurrection Territory
Matthew 27, I am at the 45th verse. We are still in post-resurrection miracle territory. Oh God! I am going to say that again, because I think I felt a spark of the Holy Spirit: we are in post-resurrection miracle territory, which means over the next 30 minutes, God could literally do anything in this service, and nothing will ever be the same. Do I have anybody that has enough faith to believe that God could do something in the next few moments that our lives will never be the same?
Darkness Over the Land
Matthew 27, I am at the 45th verse. Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour, there was darkness over all the land. Freeze! Tomorrow something is happening in the sky. It does not happen often; it is rare, and it only lasts for four minutes. Sounds like my honeymoon! But I am saying this, I am here all week—keep me in prayer. I got my joy, so this is Love Story; this is not Relentless. I got my joy at Love Story, so I can laugh a little bit. There is a different freedom!
The Eclipse and Signs
People have spent thousands of dollars to go to a particular city so that they can view an eclipse that lasts for 3 minutes and 42 seconds. Scripture makes clear that there are signs in the heavens that signify the soon coming of the Lord Jesus. I need a little more help from the saints. While they are looking at the moon passing past the sun, I am looking for the Son who made the sun and the moon and the stars! Is there anybody that is grateful for the sunlight? But I am looking for the Son, who is the light of the world! 3 minutes and 42 seconds is the total path or the total darkness from the full eclipse. Most people will have a partial eclipse.
Darkness on Golgotha
But on this date, in this moment on Golgotha, the place of the skull, at a particular point in time, as Yeshua Hamashiach was on the cross for three hours, darkness hit the region. Now scientists say it is not possible for a solar eclipse to last that long. They would also tell you that the sun cannot stand still for an entire day, but if you ask Joshua, “Oh! I need some saints in here!” God can do anything; He is in charge of nature. The first thing God said is, “Let there be light.” Light is the fastest thing in the universe! Nothing travels faster than the speed of light—186,000 miles per second! Which means what He said billions of years ago is still traveling right now.
God Speaks Quickly
I do not know who this is going to help, but when God speaks, it moves fast! Somebody this week is about to see that God spoke something, and it is about to show up in your life! It is about to move fast! I feel the Holy Spirit! From the sixth hour until the ninth hour, there was darkness over all the land. And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli,” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Jesus' Cry and Meaning
For those who were here last week, we know that Jesus was actually quoting scripture from the book of Psalm, a song of David. In his deep sorrow, there is a moment where, even in the midst of his pain, David says, “But I will trust the Lord.” I feel like He left me. I feel like I am all alone, but there is something that I know about His character—that He is not going to leave me in this state forever! I know too much about my Father! So Jesus is crying out of His pain and the fact that the Father had just turned His back. And He turned His back so that you and I could have a love story! I wish I had some help in here!
Misunderstanding Elijah
Some of those who stood there, when they heard that, said, “This man is calling for Elijah.” Immediately, one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and offered it to Him to drink. The rest said, “No, leave Him alone. Let us see if Elijah will come and save Him.” I never caught this until I was studying for this message.
The Loud Cry and Victory
Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up His Spirit. Now, Charles, you are a theologian. Okay, how can you cry out with a loud voice after being crucified for hours, having lost blood, lung capacity, and the inability to even catch your breath, but at the end of His crucifixion, He had mustered enough strength to let out a shout? There are demons who have been fighting you for years to steal your praise, to steal your voice, and to steal your sound!
Shout in the Trial
I do not know what your crucifixion looks like, because everyone must pick up their cross and follow Him, but I know this: the enemy is not counting on you to shout while you are being crucified! The enemy is counting on you not to shout while you are in the middle of trial! I want to invite you right now to lift up another shout right now before you get free, before the prayer is answered, before it works in your favor! Can you praise Him in the midst of trial while you are waiting on an answer? Can you praise the Lord? Glory! Glory!
Behold the Aftermath
He cried out again with a loud voice, and He yielded up His Spirit! Woo! Help me, Jesus! Then behold, Elder! When you see the word behold, what he is really saying is, “Watch this!” Elbow somebody and say, “You have got to watch this!” Watch this! Look at somebody and say, “Watch this! Watch this! Watch this!” Then behold! Watch this! The veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom!
Torn Veil and Access
No man can even get to the top of the temple to even touch the curtain because the only person that could go beyond the curtain is the high priest. Anybody else would die on the spot! Play with God if you want to! Do not touch the holy things of God or the holy people of God! These people are crazy today; they just say whatever they want. You better be careful what you say about God’s people. You better be careful what you say about the saints. You better be careful what you say about the anointing. God, I discern Your presence in this place!
Earthquake and Signs
And the earth quaked! What happened Friday in the largest city in this country? A 4.8 magnitude quake! Ah! Okay, four is a number of deliverance; eight is new beginnings! Witness the new beginning that starts with deliverance! I want to deliver people who are in gross darkness! Earthquakes, signs, and wonders in the sky! Sounds like Matthew 24 is happening in our lifetime! You have got eclipses and earthquakes! Scary that Jesus said this kind of stuff was going to be happening before I show up again!
Stay Connected
If I were you, I would stay connected to the house of God in this season. I would not be messing with carnal people. I would not be playing games because Jesus is soon to come! Soon come! Jesus, my Savior, soon shall crack the sky, and He shall wipe every tear from our eyes! All right, I need you all to catch this. I am going to try to preach it; I am going to let you out of here, but I have got to get this out!
The Title: The Aftermath
The earth quaked and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep—fallen asleep! They are not dead; they are asleep! You do not believe it? Read John 11! Jesus said, “Lazarus is asleep!” Like, “No, he is dead!” I said, “He is asleep!” And since I made him, I can tell you what it is! You do not tell me; I tell you! Many of the bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many!
Message Title
The title of this message, for the few minutes that I have your attention, is “The Aftermath.” The aftermath! After the resurrection comes the aftermath. You may be seated. I will ask you to participate with me for the few moments that I have you while you are sitting. I want you to say it again with as much lung capacity as you have: “The Aftermath! The Aftermath!”
Earthquakes and Shifting
There have been a number of earthquakes over the past years, most specifically the horrific earthquake in Haiti that killed hundreds of thousands of people. The nation of Haiti still has not recovered from that earthquake! Earthquakes come when tectonic plates shift beneath the ground, where there is friction between one area of foundation and another. When one wants to take over the territory of another, they hit, and that friction causes everything above it to shake!
Spiritual Ears Needed
Even things that were good foundationally—even the best laid foundation—is often no match depending on the seismic activity of an earthquake! As it is in this moment, I need you to get spiritual ears and eyes for what is happening! You cannot live a carnal life in this season! You cannot be so focused on your social media accounts that you are missing that the Holy Spirit has been trying to wake you up every morning for the last three weeks to get you into a posture of prayer so that you can be prepared for what is coming!
Revelation for Family
Not just for yourself, but for your family who is not saved, who needs to know what is going on in the earth! God needs to give you revelation so you can distribute that to the rest of your family! While everybody else is running and trying to grab groceries, and you are sitting up listening to gospel music like it is not a care in the world, they are going to ask you how come you are sitting over here with all of this peace when all of this hell is breaking loose? Because I got a revelation from Jesus that everything you see right now just means He is coming back soon!
Looking for Jesus
So while you got on glasses to look up at an eclipse, I am looking up at the sky waiting for Jesus! We always rightfully talk about the death of Jesus Christ, but what we do not talk about is the aftermath of His resurrection! The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most staggering, singularly significant moment in all of human history because in this moment, the transaction that the Father initiated from eternity to win us back to Himself was completed.
Philippians 2 and Humility
Now I am going to give you another scripture that you will be able to shout on at the end of this message, a few moments from now. It is Philippians chapter 2, and I am starting at the fifth verse: “Oh, let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bond servant.”
Honoring Pastor Charles
I got to tell you that He does not like notoriety and applause, but Pastor Charles Hall is one of the most significant supernatural gifts anywhere in the body of Christ in this world! You all have no clue what that man—stand up, Sir, because I know you hate this, but you are going to stand up! You are going to honor him! There it is! I need you all to just thank God for your executive pastor, your COO!
Servant Leadership
Listen to what I am saying. Taking a form of a bond servant, he has an elevated leadership role in this ministry. Last week on this wall, it said, “Where purpose comes alive”—it was relentless, yeah! “You belong before you believe” was on the walls, and we got quotes, five-figure quotes to get those letters down. Then I got a text—“the letters are gone!” He had gotten some scaffolding thing and got up there himself and took the letters down! He did not call anybody; he did not outsource it. He went and did it himself!
Quiet Service
The Love Story Church logo that you see outside on the windows—he did it himself! Not a company! He took it upon himself because those are the kinds of leaders that God honors—those who do not seek their own but seek to make the kingdom better by quietly serving! But the Bible says what you do in secret, God will reward openly. So I want to give you open honor in front of this church for the work you do that no one sees! And Elder Dennis, we are raising up leaders that will do that!
Jesus' Obedience
We do not have to write a check! If you got two hands, you made yourself of no reputation, taking the form of a bond servant and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, Jesus humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name!
Every Knee Shall Bow
I need you all to catch this because this is going to correlate to the end of my message—that at the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow, of those in heaven—this is the part I need you to catch—and of those on Earth and of those—every tongue should confess, every tongue—that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father! The aftermath! Every knee has to bow in heaven, in Earth, under the Earth!
The Blood Redeems
Why is that important? When Jesus died, His blood—we just sing it—“I know it was the blood! I know it was the blood! I know it was the blood for me!” One day when I was lost, He died on the cross, and I know it was the blood for me! His blood came streaming down! Stay right there! His blood came streaming down! I am not even going to sing no more; I am going to make them just wait—just leave it in the air! But His blood did not just stay in His beard! Hallelujah! It hit the ground!
Blood Hits the Ground
When perfect blood hits dirty ground, it redeems the Earth! When His blood hit the ground, the Earth was redeemed because blood purchased our salvation! It also redeemed us from every curse! Remember that the ground was cursed because of sin, but now that the blood has hit the ground, the curse has to be lifted because His blood is pure!
Sin Uploaded
Here is what is crazy! But at a certain point, for three hours, the sins of everyone, every filthy thing I have ever done, you have ever done, ever thought—anything that anyone has ever done—was uploaded to His body! And in that moment when the Father had to look away, because the Bible says God is too holy to look upon sin, it was not that He wanted to reject His Son; He had to reject the sin His Son was carrying!
Supernatural Darkness
He says, “Eli, Eli!” What He is saying is, “No, no, I have never experienced this!” There was darkness—there was darkness over the land for three hours! Was it an eclipse? I do not believe so! I believe it was a supernatural, spiritual transaction that was localized to that region so that the people understood: you are not messing with a regular man! This is the Son of the Living God, and you all should not have put your hands on Him!
Our Sin on the Cross
But it was not the Roman government that crucified Him! It was not jealous, insecure Pharisees and goofy church folk—even though they were participants! It was the sins of the people in this room and those watching online and every other human being that put Jesus on the cross! So before we go judging the Pharisees and the Sadducees, look at me! Look at me! Because it was your sin, your lust, your sex before marriage! It was you! Your lying! Your cheating! Your stealing! It was your cussing! It was all the stuff that you did, the stuff that I did!
Look in the Mirror
So stop looking anywhere else! You want to know why Jesus was on that cross? Look in the mirror! Absolutely! And how much love does it take for you to die for people who still do not pay you attention? There are people who have come into this room as if they are doing God a favor on their Facebook and social media, playing games! And I am not even talking about the kids! I expect kids to be kids! But you, 36 years old, still on the—and then ready to leave early and then wonder why your life looks like hell!
Come to Do Business
You did not even come here to really do business with the King! You came here to check a box off in your own mind! You might as well have stayed home! But there are those of us in this room that know I have got to get to the temple because I believe that when I get into the company of the saints, something changes! My atmosphere changes! My attitude changes! My spirit gets encouraged because I realize I am not by myself! Am I talking to anybody else?
Forgiveness on the Cross
Lord, I need Your help on this! Everybody who has the ability to praise the Lord right now. All right, help me, Jesus! Are you all all right? Because I feel like preaching! It is the aftermath! How much love you got to have for people that you stay on a cross for three hours, taking the sins of the whole world, things you did not do, dying a death you do not deserve, while the people who put you there are looking at you, laughing at you?
Father, Forgive Them
And while you are dying, you say, “Father, forgive them!” While they are cussing me out and laughing at me while I am naked on a cross, dying slowly, the most agonizing death known to man—FORGIVE THEM! You are not really got the heart of Jesus until you can forgive them while they are killing you! Oh, my God! You are going to have to help me out of here! I got to get out of here!
Forgive While Hurting
Some of you all know what I am talking about! You got to look at people in their face after you know what they really think about you, what they really say about you, and you say “God bless you!” And I really mean it! God forgive them—they do not know what they are doing! Jesus is about to die! If you learn about crucifixion—and you should—you should go study it! The pain is unimaginable!
Pain of Crucifixion
But one of the things that you need to know about crucifixion, for those who do not know, is it makes your lungs collapse! Anybody here have asthma? If you have ever had an asthma attack, stand up! I have never had an asthma attack. I need to ask those who have had one: is it scary? Tell me what happens—is it hard to breathe? You cannot catch your breath. You panic! You stop breathing, and there is an inhaler!
Asthma and Breath
One time, my son had his inhaler and he was having trouble—he took 14 pumps of albuterol! For those who know, that could have killed him! But he got scared, so he took what he thought was prescribed, but took too much of it! Jesus is in pain, so they offer Him sour wine on a reed because reeds are actually a form of healing. So they were trying to give Him something that would minimize the pain!
He Felt All Pain
I do not! Uh-uh! Because they offered Him wine mixed with myrrh, which was that which takes away pain. He would not drink it because He needed to feel all the pain in order for the transaction to be complete! I do not want Novocain! I got to stay on this cross! I got to feel this pain! I have to feel this rejection so that my brothers and sisters do not have to!
Thinking of You
I am trying to provoke you to worship today by helping you realize that Jesus was thinking about you while He was in pain and kept enduring the pain so that you would not have to! So why are you still in an abusive relationship when Jesus died for you to be free? Why are you still struggling with an addiction that the blood has already purchased you out of? Why are you still walking around saying you are less than when the blood of Jesus says, “Greater is He that is in you?”
Last Loud Cry
Somebody pray for me! I need you to pray for me! I need some strength here! Crucifixion makes your lungs collapse, Jordan, which means when He cried out with a loud voice at the end, it took every ounce He had to get that last little scream out because when you have an asthma attack, you cannot breathe! You need breath in order to yell! Jesus mustered His last little strength, and He did not just cry out; He cried out with a loud voice!
Victory Shout
I have been up here dying for all these hours! They have not broken my bones yet, because the Bible says, prophesied, that none of His bones shall be broken! When He yelled out, He did not yell out of sadness; He did not yell out of pain; He yelled from victory! I am going to need some help in here, because I am going to need you to get ready to yell from victory for every time the devil tried to take your breath, take your joy, take your peace, take your passion, take your money, take your life!
Muster Strength
I need you to muster a little strength, and I need you to—I need somebody to break out in here! I need somebody to shout in here! Are you praying for me? After He cried out with a loud voice, He yielded His spirit! It did not say His spirit went to heaven; He yielded His spirit! That means even in death, He submitted His spirit to the Father!
Yielded Spirit
I am about to mess you up, and I am going to tear this whole church up! When He gave up His spirit, He said, “Father, whatever You need me to do next, I will do that too!” Some of you all do not realize your body houses you! It is not you! That is why you cannot get caught up with carnal people and immature people because you have a body, but you are not this body! This is the vehicle that God is using to fulfill purpose and effectuate change in the Earth!
Eternal Nature
But you are eternal by nature! So when you leave this body, you do not cease to exist; you cease to need this body, because your spirit is going back to God! How do I know? Because even a witch pulled up the prophet Samuel from Sheol, and he said, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” She said, “I see a mantle rising out of the earth!” He died a prophet and was a prophet even after death!
They Can't Kill You
People are messing with you—they want to kill you—they cannot kill you! You are eternal! I feel a different oil on me, Charles! I am trying to stay up because I feel like I might faint! I feel like I am hitting something I have never hit before! I need somebody to pray for me! I am in a different place now! Jesus yielded up His spirit! Father, is there anything else You want me to do? Yes, Son! Before You come up here and sprinkle Your blood on the mercy seat, You have one more assignment.
Descent and Revival
For three days, I need you in the lower part of the earth! And He led captivity captive and gave gifts unto men! What is this? That He ascended unless He first descended to the lowest parts of the earth! And so Jesus decided, “I am going to yield My spirit,” and the Father said, “I need you to do a 3-day revival in the lowest parts of the earth!”
Preaching Below
For those who died in hope, they were in what was called the bosom of Abraham. So they never knew who Jesus was; they just knew they were believing for something! So Jesus shows up in the lowest parts of the earth and says, “All the things you prayed about—all the things that were prophesied—I am Him!” You know a lot of people are in sports saying, “He is Him!” and “She is Her!” No, no, no! Jesus is the first! I am Him! I am He!
I Am He
That it was prophesied, “Behold, I come in the volume of the book—it is written of me to do Your will, oh God! I am Him! I am the first and the last, the beginning and the end, the alpha and the omega! There is nobody coming after me, and there is nobody that can stand beside me!” He is preaching and prophesying, and the Bible says, in Matthew, that when He died, the earth quaked!
Rocks Split, Graves Opened
Yeah, Tim, I need a—The rocks were split! Give me a symbol on that! The rocks were split, and the graves were opened! It was like Thriller! But before Thriller, it was the Healer! Because He is a healer! The earth quaked! Like on Friday, the rocks were split! Now tell me, Pastor, about these rocks being split!
Rocks Cry Out
Well, you know, the week before He died, He was going into the city, and the Pharisees were hating, talking about, “You need to tell your servants and your disciples to stop saying this, 'Hosanna,' and praising you!” He, on His donkey, said, “Hey, I tell you, if they do not praise, the rocks will cry out!” The earth quaking means the foundation shifted! That which was is no more!
Law Fulfilled
The rock splitting—the word rock is stone in Greek—in Hebrew it is the law! What happened is the law was broken once and for all because He fulfilled it! So the law had no more power! So the rocks had to split! The earthquake means a shift from the Old Testament to the New—from the old covenant to the new covenant, which is in My blood!
Dead Things Rise
The earthquake because the blood hit the ground! The rock split because the law had been fulfilled; it now has no ability to hold you hostage! And then the graves were opened! Which means anything dead has legal right to get up! You all missed this! If He got up, you can get up! Somebody just caught it! Whatever is dead in your life has to get up!
Evidence of Resurrection
Hold on! The earthquake was a 4.8; the eclipse is tomorrow on 4/8! Are there any more questions about the power of Jesus? I am getting ready to tear this place down! Help me, Holy Ghost! Thank you, Pastor A, because I did not realize! Courtney said it is 4! Thank you! Ah! God help me! The rocks were split! The graves were opened! Which means dead things got up and testified!
Living Miracle
And it says they went into the city of Greenville and appeared to many! Somebody is about to shout right here! There are people who thought you were dead, and they are going to be like, “Wait, wait, wait! I thought you were dead!” I was, but the blood! I was dead, but the blood! Drawn from Emmanuel’s veins! The blood!
Say It
I need everyone to say this, and then however you respond after is on you! Get off that phone, son! You and Eric, get off those phones! Stand up! You and your friends, stand up! Say this: “I am evidence of the resurrection!” Preaching! I am evidence of resurrection! People are not going to know what to do with you because they thought you were dead! It was over! No hope!
They Hate Evidence
But because Jesus died, you have to get up! Glory! The reason why they do not know what to do with you is because they do not know what to do with things that used to be dead that are now alive! Wow! Find five people and tell them, “You are a living miracle!” You are a living miracle! Put it in the chat feed! I said put it in the chat feed! Do not just tell them they are a miracle! You are a living miracle!
Buried to Proclaim
If you have ever died, if something in your life ever died, you need to know that you are alive now! Somebody pray! Preach with me! I need your help! They hate you because you are evidence of resurrection, and because you are alive, it is clear that God is not finished with you! Oh my God! So Jesus prophesied and preached under the earth, so now the scripture that I gave you from Philippians 2 makes sense!
Every Knee Bows
At the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow! Of those in heaven, on Earth—you all missed it! That prophecy could not be fulfilled unless He preached under the earth! Some of you were like, “God, I am buried!” He needed you to preach under the earth! Unless you have been buried, you will not shout right there!
Proclaim His Name
But when people have put dirt on your name, when they put dirt on your reputation, when they buried you while you were still trying to catch your breath, I need you to know He needed you to be buried so you could proclaim His name under the earth! Jesus was already the King of Heaven! Everything up there worships Him! He comes to the earth; He dies! Everything here has to worship Him!
Authority Everywhere
But there was one more dimension that He needed to go ahead and subdue! So His spirit was yielded to the Father! He goes into the lower parts of the earth, and He preaches there! And by the time He is done, He gets up! But the Bible says not only did He get up, but some other saints got up! So now every knee will bow because heaven worships, the earth worships, and now anything under the earth has to worship!
Dead Things Get Up
