John Bradshaw - But He Didn't
When David was fleeing Jerusalem, as his son Absalom was usurping the throne, a man named Shimei cursed David as he went, even threw stones at him. When David returned in triumph, Shimei was singing a very different song.
In 2 Samuel 19:21, "Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, 'Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the Lord's anointed'" This was the perfect time for King David to inflict vengeance, but he didn't. Even though Shimei didn't deserve mercy, David opted to extend mercy.
There are many times you get the opportunity to stick it to someone after they've wronged you, and while that might feel good in the moment, you won't feel good in the long run, and it doesn't reflect well on God. Vengeance is for vengeful people, forgiveness and kindness are for followers of Jesus. I'm John Bradshaw for It Is Written.
