John Bradshaw - You Also Lower Yourself
When God gave the Ten Commandments. He did so understanding the way the human mind works. If you lower your conception of God, you also lower yourself, which is why God said, "You shall not make for yourself a carved image, any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them".
Exodus 20, verses 4 and 5. The God of heaven is limitless, the Bible says the heaven of heavens cannot contain Him. Someone might say that the idol or image is only a symbol, but what it is, is sin. It's not that a statue is an inherently evil thing, but the act of bowing before an idol of representing God by something a person made is inherently degrading.
The Second Commandment protects true worship. You never want to reduce God down to less than what He truly is. I'm John Bradshaw for It Is Written.
