John Bradshaw - Goads
We have a battle as humans and that is that we have to fight against our humanity. Six thousand years after creation all people yield to a greater or lesser extent with selfishness it's easy to be comfortable in your own wisdom but in Ecclesiastes 12:11 Solomon wrote, "The words of the wise are as goads".
A goad is like a cattle prod, something that prompts movement. In his day a goad was a long stick with a sharp point. The words of the wise, which includes the Bible of course, are to prod us.
The Bible can cause resentment if you let it. Sometimes it can ruffle your feathers, but instead of seeing the Bible as a book that takes away it's better to see God's word as spurring you to greater heights. If you'll allow it to do so, the Bible will prod you forward to eternal life. I'm John Bradshaw for It Is Written.
