John Bradshaw - You Don't Have to Show Everyone Yours
A funny thing happened on the way to the second coming of Jesus. Not long ago people generally agreed that the human body was something to be covered up. After Adam and Eve sinned, "They sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons", Genesis 3:7.
Throughout history the human body generally speaking hasn't been flaunted. But in recent decades, fueled by popular entertainment and fashion, the trend has been to show off more and more and to leave less and less to the imagination.
You'll find nudity or something very close to it in the news, in pop culture, in advertising. Someone will say, "But the human body is a beautiful thing". Sure, but that doesn't mean you have to show everyone your beautiful thing.
The lack of shame, the boldness, the blindness of all of this is another sign that humanity has lost its way. It'd be good if we found our way again. I'm John Bradshaw, for It Is Written.
