John Bradshaw - Self-Deceived
Jesus' message to the church of Laodicea was designed to get their attention and yours; he says, "Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing' and do not know that you are a wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked," it's Revelation 3:17.
When Laodicea, a major banking center, was destroyed by an earthquake in 60 A.D, it turned down the Roman Empire's offer of financial assistance and paid for reconstruction itself.
Wealthy, well there's nothing wrong with wealth, you don't want to trust in it. The Laodicea felt they were okay financially and spiritually, but they didn't realize their true condition; wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.
The last thing you want to be is blind to your true condition. How can God change your heart? If you're in denial, be honest and let God do the work in you that needs to be done. I'm John Bradshaw for It Is Written.
