John Bradshaw - Apollos

John Bradshaw - Apollos
TOPICS: Every Word

One of the key figures in the early church was a man named Apollos; the Bible tells us he was a Jew born in Egypt; Paul references him in 1 Corinthians. In Acts 18, we read that Apollos, "Mightily convinced the Jews and that publicly; showing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ".

The scriptures he was using were the Old Testament scriptures, so Apollos taught from the Old Testament that Jesus was the Messiah; he likely went to Isaiah 53 and taught about the suffering Messiah, maybe the Psalms which speak of the crucifixion, perhaps Micah; Micah wrote that Jesus would be born in Bethlehem. There would have been other scriptures in Isaiah he went to, more than likely Zechariah and Daniel and others.

Acts 18 reminds us that the Old Testament isn't just sacrifices and ancestries; it's where you find evidence that Jesus is the Messiah. I'm John Bradshaw for It Is Written.
