You will never find God's presence in an atmosphere where He is not held with the utmost respect. In Leviticus chapter 10, verse 1, God says, "By those who come near Me, I must be regarded as holy, and before all the people, I must be glorified." I want you to listen to the words "must"—God is saying that in order to come into His presence, whether privately or publicly, we must hold Him with the utmost fear, reverence, and awe.
Now, you're probably wondering, "Wait a minute, I thought God said He would never leave me nor forsake me." His presence is everywhere; that is absolutely true. There is the omnipresence of God, where David said in Psalm 139, "Lord, where can I flee from Your presence? If I go to the highest mountain, You are there; if I make my bed in the lowest valley, You are there." That is the presence of God that assures us He will never leave us nor forsake us. However, in John chapter 14, Jesus talks about another aspect of God's presence, which is His manifest presence.
Jesus says, "To him who has My words and obeys them, I will manifest Myself to him." The word "manifest" means to bring from the unseen into the realm of the seen, the unheard into the realm of the heard, the unknown into the realm of the known. It is when God reveals Himself to your senses; you can sense Him with your five physical senses. That is a real aspect of Christianity—the presence of God that will manifest when we walk in holy awe. There are people who say, "I don't ever feel God's presence; I don't ever experience it in church or when I'm praying."
Well, I want you to check yourself: are you approaching Him with that holy awe? God says if you do, then He will manifest Himself to us. Not only must we approach Him with holy awe, but we must also walk in obedience to what He has revealed to us. It is crucial that we live in the manifest presence of God; this is what Moses said would separate us from all the people on the earth.
The Apostle Paul wrote about this in 2 Corinthians chapter 6: "As God has said, I will dwell in them and walk among them; I will be their God and they will be My people." He is talking about a dwelling, not a visiting presence—a dwelling presence. This is so important. Jesus said, "When two of you are gathered together in My name, there I am in the midst of them." That is not His everywhere presence; that is not His omnipresence. That is the presence He promises to manifest when Believers come together in His name. Again, remember, this is the presence that Moses said would separate us from all the other people on the face of the earth.
