John Bevere - It's Not Enough to Just Receive Jesus as Savior

To simply receive Jesus as Savior does not establish a covenant relationship with Him. Yet, countless times I have witnessed Western ministers offer salvation without mentioning turning from our sins and submitting to His lordship. I hear calls like, "All you have to do is confess Jesus as your Savior and you’ll be a child of God," or, "Why don’t you make Jesus your Savior today?" or, "Let’s all pray this prayer: 'Jesus, come into my heart; save me today. Thank You for making me a child of God.'" Our messages seem appealing and correlate with isolated scriptures in the New Testament, but they don’t reflect God’s wisdom. I don’t believe this approach is correct. We should evaluate ourselves.
Jesus made this statement in Mark chapter 8. He said, "Whoever desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me; for whoever desires to save his life will lose it. But whoever loses his life for my sake will save it." First of all, He says you must deny yourself. What is He talking about? You can’t have two masters because, eventually, those two different masters will demand different things, and you will have to make a choice. If you do not choose Him as your supreme authority, you will often make the wrong choice, as that will likely be the easier option for your flesh.
