The gift of God in your life is not your ability; it's His ability, and He is giving you stewardship. Now, if I were to give you my chainsaw—my chainsaw—and say, "I'm going away for six months; you can use this however you want," you could come into my yard and tear down all my trees, leaving stumps everywhere and making my yard look terrible. Believe me, you would give an account to me when I come home. Alternatively, you could decide to trim all my trees and remove the unwanted branches, and when I come home, I would be impressed. But the thing I want you to understand is that, even though it was my chainsaw, you could use it however you wanted. Let me tell you something: there are people who have been given gifts of communicating and singing. There are those called to lead millions into the presence of God, but they have used their gifts for Hollywood purposes, for record labels, or for their own fanfare. You see, that’s what you have to remember: you get to choose how to use that gift. Are you going to build the kingdom, or are you going to build your own life? Will you build for the eternal, or will you build for the temporary?
