John Bevere - Making God's Presence Your Priority

John Bevere - Making God's Presence Your Priority
TOPICS: God's Presence, Priorities

Is there anything better than the presence of God? There’s nothing, you know. When you think about those angels that have been crying out «Holy,» right, the seraphim? Has anybody ever thought—let’s just be honest—couldn’t they look at God and say, «I’ve been doing this for 10 trillion years; could I take a break and you send in some replacements so maybe I can see some parts of the universe I haven’t seen yet»? Do you know they don’t want that because there’s nothing greater in creation than the Creator Himself? I mean, think about Isaiah—what a godly man he was.

In Isaiah 5, he says, «Woe to the drunkard! Woe to those who call evil good! Woe to the proud!» That’s Isaiah 5. Then you read Isaiah 6; he has one glimpse of the Lord. It’s not «woe to the proud» but «woe is me!» I mean, this is a godly man because for the first time in his life, he realized how great our God is and who he is before this great God. So you just have to understand. I mean, I remember when my boys were little; they were enamored with Michael Jordan—Michael Jordan, Michael Jordan, Michael Jordan. I just got fed up one day.

I remember we were at the ocean, and they were thrown by the waves that day, okay? They were big; they were trying to body surf and getting crashed. So they all had their towels around them, and we were in the hotel room. I said, «Hey, guys, those waves are pretty powerful, aren’t they?» They said, «Oh, yeah.» I said, «You can see a long way out in that ocean, can’t you?» They said, «Yeah.» I said, «You know, you can only see about 8 miles out there.» I said, «That ocean goes another several thousand miles.» They were like, «Whoa.» I said, «Do you know God weighed every drop of that water in the palm of His hand?» I said, «You’re impressed by this guy who can palm a basketball and dunk a ball from the free-throw line.» You were like, «Whoa.»

Well, it kind of brought it back into perspective. But I said to my boys, «God has on purpose hidden how great He is, His glory, because He wants to see what we’re going to be enamored by.» So it really does take eyes to understand how great this God is that we serve, whom we call Father. I mean, He has given us the privilege; I would be fine being His slave, but He grants us the privilege of calling Him Dad. Okay, so there’s nothing better than the presence of God. If you’re smart, you’ll protect that in your personal life, in your home, and in your church. For all you pastors that are here, make that your top priority.
