John Bevere - Hunger for the Word

John Bevere - Hunger for the Word

Tonight, I want to talk to you, Believers. If you’ve taken the word of God with a casual attitude, do you know what I mean by casual attitude? I’ll read it if I get a chance. I’m not trying to create a law for you to read the Bible, but what I am trying to say is, shouldn’t you have a little more of a hunger for it? I don’t have to make a law for that guy going across that landmine field; I don’t have to make a law for him to read the map. I have explained to him how he might be taken out in a body bag. See, this is what Jesus is doing: He’s saying, «Do you understand? Do not be deceived! Because if possible, even the elect will be deceived.»

So what He did is create a hunger in us; He doesn’t want people reading the Bible because they have to. What a terrible noose, what a terrible weight—that’s bondage! Eve thought she could get away with it; she didn’t have to seek God. She’s in a perfect environment. You’re sitting here tonight and you’d say, «You know what? I’ve had the totally wrong attitude towards the word of God. I’ve seen it as rigid, as required, as labor, as a burden.» But I’ve realized tonight, I can’t wait to get in there and have the Holy Spirit reveal knowledge to me that will keep me from blowing myself up in this landmine called the world.
