James Meehan - Replace Your Negative Thoughts in 3 Steps
TOPICS: Thoughts

In honor of our upcoming "Switch" series and our pastor's latest book, today we're talking about three simple steps you can take to win the war in your mind.

Step number one, talk back to yourself. Don't just listen to yourself. Talk to yourself. Do not accept the negative thoughts that are running amok in your mind. Reject them and replace them. Bonus points, if you replace your negative thoughts with God's truth, what you're going through might be tough, but to remind yourself that you are tougher. Whatever those negative temptations are, Christ in you is stronger than them. If Jesus died on the cross for you, then maybe you can endure whatever that negative thing is for him.

Thing number two, process your emotions with God. Because unprocessed emotions never die. They just sit there and they fester. And so often our negative thoughts are actually being driven by unprocessed negative emotions. So bring your emotions to God in prayer. I promise you He can handle them. He cares for you. So go to him and tell him what you're mad about, what you're sad about, what you're anxious about, and what you're happy about. Cast your cares on him because he cares for you.

And then thing number three, surround yourself with emotionally mature people, because we become like the people we spend time with. So spend time with people who are healthy and will help you become healthy. Our pastor has said many times before that you are the average of your five closest friends. So if you wanna be healthier, then find emotionally healthy people to put in your life. People who will build you up and not just bring you down. Bonus, get out of your head by serving someone else.

Mental Health America says this. "Research indicates that those who consistently help other people experience less depression, greater calm, fewer pains, and better health. They may even live longer". Double bonus. Start reading the book, "Winning the War in Your Mind for Teens" to get practical advice on how to take back your mental health and thrive emotionally. There's a link to where you can find the book in the description of this video. Triple bonus!

This Wednesday night begins our series "Winning the War in Your Mind for Teens", where our pastor Craig Groeschel is going to teach an incredible message that's gonna help you and the people around you take back their mental health. So invite a friend, it's gonna be special. Thank you so much for checking out this video. If you liked it, then make sure you like it.
