Derek Prince - Weaned From Arrogance
TOPICS: Derek Prince Devotions, Arrogance

My heart is not proud, O LORD, my eyes are not haughty. I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. But I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me. - Psalm 131:1-2, NIV

I've lived in countries where women habitually nurse their little babies in public. I've preached in Africa to congregations where the two front rows were reserved for women with nursing babies and I've remembered looking out of the audience and hearing a little child begin to cry and see the mother begin to feed the child right there in front. And this Scripture became so real to me as I saw that the psalmist said that he's no longer like that little child. He doesn't cry and immediately demand something from God, but he's been weaned.

What's the difference between an unweaned child and a weaned child? Essentially, an unweaned child cries and expects something immediately from its mother; a weaned child knows its mother well enough that she's going to feed it and is prepared to wait till the food is put on the table. And that's how we should be with God, not continually bothering God with our emergencies and our problems but trusting Him and waiting for Him to put on the table that which is appropriate for us at any given season.

I've learned in my own experience I get much more from God when I don't bother Him with my cries, but I accept the revelation He has prepared for me at the time of His choosing.
