Hey, Shadow Mountain family! We have just come through a great Christmas season and a wonderful stewardship season, and now we’re ready to begin a new teaching series.
This coming week, we will start our study of the Old Testament book of Jonah. We’ve titled the series «Jonah: The Runaway Prophet» It is an amazing story—told in four chapters of Old Testament scripture—of a man called by God to reach a people he didn’t like. When he said, 'No, I’m not going to do it, ' he tried to run away from God.
When you stop and think about it, it’s quite foolish to believe you could ever truly run away from God, but Jonah tried anyway. In this study, we’re going to find out exactly what happened to him.
One of the reasons I love this book is that it is a story of God’s grace and mercy. He is the God of the second chance; the Bible even says, 'The word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time.' The rest of the book tells the story of how God used a restored and forgiven Jonah to spark one of the greatest revivals the world has ever seen.
